- $1,342.48 on the 4-hour chart, up 0.38% and coiled directly on top of a tight moving-average cluster.
- Hybrid vehicle demand is supporting autocatalyst consumption even as the market is still expected to record a global surplus.
- 1,329.74 is the level beneath the cluster that decides which way the compression resolves.
Fundamental Analysis: Palladium
The supply side offers genuine support. Russian production remains a persistent concern for the market's availability calculus, and South African processing has been constrained by power supply disruptions that limit refined output regardless of what is mined. Those are the two jurisdictions that matter most for palladium, and both are operating with less certainty than the market would like.
Demand is more contested. Rising hybrid vehicle sales have provided near-term support for autocatalyst consumption, since hybrids carry loadings and battery-electric vehicles do not, and that has partly offset the structural shift away from internal combustion. But electric vehicle sales have recorded consecutive monthly increases, and the direction of that trend has not changed. Every hybrid that supports palladium demand today is also a step along a road that ends without it.
The result is a market where supply risk and demand erosion have roughly cancelled out, and where the balance is still expected to record a global surplus despite the constraints. A surplus with supply risk attached is a market that trades in a range rather than one that trends, which is precisely what the chart has been doing. Broader inputs such as dollar strength, bond yields and geopolitical risk premia have been setting the shorter-term direction instead.
Technical Analysis: Palladium

The August structure is a range with a compressing centre. Price reached roughly 1,390 on 11 August, fell to a low near 1,272 on 18 August, and rebounded to about 1,373 by 22 August, so the month has produced a wide envelope without a directional resolution. What has changed in the past few sessions is that the four moving averages have converged into a 22-dollar band between 1,318.24 and 1,339.95, with price sitting just above all of them at 1,342.61.
Resistance is the 1,373 rebound high, then the 1,390 August high. Support is the 1,339.95 and 1,336.31 pair, then 1,329.74. A close below 1,318.24 would invalidate the constructive read by dropping price beneath the entire cluster, which would open the 1,272 low as the next reference.
