GBP/USD price today

GBP/USD traded at 1.3442 on Friday, down 0.09% on the day, as the pair drifted lower through the session after an early attempt at fresh highs. The pair opened near Thursday's close of 1.3454 and briefly touched a session high above 1.3456 in the early hours before turning lower.

The decline accelerated into the New York afternoon, with the pair breaking below the 1.3450 level around midday and continuing to grind lower into the close, eventually touching a session low near 1.3440. The steady, grinding nature of the decline, rather than a sharp single move, suggests gradual dollar demand built through the session rather than a reaction to a single headline.

With the pair now trading just above 1.3440, that level stands as the immediate support to watch heading into the weekend. A break below it would open the door to a retest of the 1.3400 handle, while a recovery back above 1.3454 would suggest the week's uptrend remains intact.

The pullback fits a broader pattern of choppy, headline-sensitive trading in sterling this week. With no major scheduled UK data releases immediately ahead, GBP/USD is likely to remain sensitive to broader dollar sentiment, with the 1.3440 to 1.3456 range serving as the boundaries traders will watch most closely into the new week.
