WTI reaches $89.43 as Brent clears $95 on renewed supply risk

By Saqib Iqbal1 min read

WTI traded at $89.43 at 09:05 UTC on July 23, while Reuters reported Brent above $95 as crude advanced for a fifth session. The immediate driver is a larger geopolitical supply premium after a tanker incident off Saudi Arabia and renewed concern about Middle East shipping routes.

Why it matters

Oil near $90–$95 is no longer just an energy-market story. It can lift headline inflation, pressure consumer spending, push bond yields higher and complicate rate decisions. That is why the move is appearing simultaneously in Treasury, currency, equity and crypto coverage.

Google’s winning results answer “why is oil rising?” but often mix intraday prices from different timestamps. BeCoin timestamps WTI separately and labels Brent’s Reuters-reported level, avoiding a false single-price snapshot.

Technical and market context

WTI’s first psychological test is $90. Holding above it would bring $92 into view; failure back below $87.50 would suggest the latest geopolitical premium is fading. TradingView’s latest WTI ideas are bullish but cautious: contributors cite continuation targets around $88.50–$92 while warning that higher-timeframe supply can trigger a sharp reversal. Those are opinions, not verified price targets.

The event path matters more than any one candle. Further verified disruption to shipping supports the bull case. Credible de-escalation or uninterrupted flows weaken it.

BeCoin forecast read

BeCoin’s base case is a volatile $87.50–$92 range while headlines are unresolved. The bull case needs a daily hold above $90 and continued supply evidence. The bear case starts below $87.50 and strengthens below $85. Price can gap on geopolitical news, so technical levels should not be treated as guaranteed execution points.
