- Brent is near $90: The benchmark crude price has risen for five consecutive sessions.
- Hormuz remains the catalyst: Fading hopes for a quick U.S.-Iran agreement are keeping a geopolitical premium in oil.
- $87.50 is the technical trigger: A breakout above this level could strengthen the bullish setup and open a much higher target.
Brent Fundamental Analysis
Brent crude remains one of the strongest-moving major commodities this week as uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz continues to dominate energy markets. Brent climbed to around $89 per barrel on Tuesday, marking its fifth consecutive daily advance.
The latest rally reflects fading expectations for a quick agreement between the United States and Iran that would fully reopen the strategic waterway. President Donald Trump has introduced additional demands on Tehran, while Iranian officials continue to push their own conditions for negotiations.
The uncertainty matters because the Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important energy chokepoints. Any prolonged disruption can increase transportation costs, reduce available supply and force refiners and consumers to compete for alternative barrels.
There is also an inventory component supporting crude. Recent data indicate that U.S. crude stocks held in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve have fallen to their lowest level in more than four decades. That adds another layer of sensitivity to any geopolitical supply disruption.
However, the bullish case has a clear risk. If negotiations suddenly produce a credible agreement and shipping through Hormuz normalizes, some of the geopolitical premium could disappear rapidly.
That makes oil particularly headline-sensitive. Traders are effectively pricing two opposing scenarios: continued disruption supporting higher prices, or diplomatic progress triggering a sharp reversal.
Brent Technical Analysis

Brent is currently trading around $87–90, with technical indicators showing a market attempting to break higher. The latest technical snapshot has Brent at approximately $87.49, with the daily technical summary classified as Buy, although the overall moving-average picture remains more mixed. RSI(14) is near 50.6, while MACD remains positive.
If that breakout holds, the pattern's measured-move analysis points toward a much higher potential target near $118. That should be treated as a longer-term technical objective rather than an immediate forecast.
On the downside, the $80 area is important support. The lower Bollinger Band around this region, making it a useful level for assessing whether a correction remains orderly or develops into a deeper reversal.
The near-term bias therefore favors buyers above $87.50, but oil's fundamental dependence on geopolitical headlines makes false breakouts a significant risk.
