AUD/USD Fundamental Analysis
AUD/USD is holding relatively firm on August 14 after recent volatility pushed the pair back toward the 0.7050–0.7070 region. The Australian dollar continues to receive support from expectations surrounding Reserve Bank of Australia policy, while the U.S. dollar has struggled to extend its recent rebound. Recent market analysis also shows AUD/USD holding above its longer-term moving-average support.
Australian interest-rate expectations remain one of the biggest drivers for the pair. The RBA's approach to inflation remains important because investors are assessing whether monetary policy needs to stay restrictive for longer. A relatively resilient Australian economy gives policymakers less reason to rush toward aggressive easing.
Commodity prices are another supportive factor. Australia is heavily exposed to global demand for raw materials, meaning stronger commodity markets can improve the country's trade position and support the Australian dollar.
The U.S. side of the equation has become equally important. Recent U.S. inflation data have reduced some pressure for further Federal Reserve tightening, creating a less supportive environment for the dollar. If Treasury yields continue easing, AUD/USD could receive another boost.
However, the Australian dollar is not completely protected from a risk-off move. Any sharp deterioration in global equity markets, renewed geopolitical concerns or a sudden strengthening in the U.S. dollar could quickly push AUD/USD lower.
The immediate fundamental question is whether the RBA's relatively firm policy expectations can continue offsetting dollar demand.
For now, the balance remains moderately positive for AUD, but the pair needs a technical breakout to confirm that buyers are ready to extend the recovery.
AUD/USD Technical Analysis

AUD/USD is trading around 0.7060–0.7070, with the pair attempting to stabilize above the 0.7050 area. Recent August 13 trading showed the pair moving above 0.7050 after earlier weakness below 0.7100.
The first resistance is 0.7100. A sustained break above this level would strengthen the short-term bullish structure and expose 0.7150.
Above 0.7150, the next important zone is 0.7200, which would represent a more significant continuation signal.
On the downside, 0.7050 is the first support. A daily close below it would weaken the recovery and could send the pair toward 0.7000–0.7020.
A deeper breakdown below 0.7000 would shift the short-term bias back toward sellers.
The technical structure therefore remains cautiously bullish while AUD/USD stays above 0.7050. 0.7100 is the key breakout level, while 0.7000 is the major downside threshold.
