- AUD/JPY remains elevated: The pair is trading around the 112 area after the yen weakened sharply.
- RBA and BOJ expectations are driving the move: Australian rate risks remain tilted higher while Japanese policy remains a major source of uncertainty.
- 112 is the key pivot: Holding above it keeps the bullish structure intact, while a break below could trigger a deeper correction.
AUD/JPY Fundamental Analysis
AUD/JPY remains one of the most sensitive currency crosses to the changing interest-rate outlook in Australia and Japan. The pair recently climbed toward 112.25, with the Australian dollar benefiting from renewed yen weakness.
The latest Australian policy signals remain important. The Reserve Bank of Australia has maintained a cautious stance toward inflation, while a senior Australian central-bank official warned on Thursday that policy risks remain tilted toward further tightening. That reinforces the yield advantage supporting the Australian dollar.
Japan presents the opposite policy picture. The yen remains under pressure after a prolonged period of weakness, although traders are increasingly conscious of the possibility that Japanese authorities could respond if depreciation becomes excessive.
That creates an unusual environment for AUD/JPY. The fundamental yield differential continues to favor the Australian dollar, but the yen carries substantial event risk because Japanese monetary policy and possible intervention can trigger abrupt reversals.
Commodity prices are another supportive factor for AUD. Australia remains highly exposed to global commodity demand, while the recent rise in energy prices has strengthened the broader commodity complex.
The key question now is whether Australian rate expectations can continue rising faster than Japanese tightening expectations. If they can, AUD/JPY could remain supported.
However, stretched positioning creates downside risk. A sudden improvement in yen demand or stronger expectations for Japanese policy normalization could produce a sharp correction even if the broader trend remains bullish.
AUD/JPY Technical Analysis

AUD/JPY is trading around 112.20–112.30, with the pair remaining close to its recent highs. The immediate technical battle is centered around 112.00.
A sustained move above 112.50 would strengthen the bullish structure and could expose 113.00, followed by the 114.00 region.
On the downside, 111.50 is the first important support. Losing that level would weaken short-term momentum and could send the pair toward 110.80–111.00.
A deeper correction below 110.80 would suggest that sellers are gaining control.
For now, the technical bias remains bullish above 111.50, but the pair is approaching territory where intervention concerns could create sudden volatility.
