EUR/AUD is under pressure, trading near 1.6340 as the Australian dollar gains support from a hawkish Reserve Bank of Australia and stronger energy prices. The RBA is keeping a tightening option open even as inflation data has softened, while a confirmed break below 1.6340 could expose 1.6260 and a recovery above 1.6400 would ease the immediate bearish pressure.
EUR/AUD Fundamental Analysis
EUR/AUD is facing renewed downside pressure as the Australian dollar benefits from a combination of monetary-policy expectations and stronger commodity prices. The pair was trading around 1.6340–1.6350 on August 12, close to an important technical support zone.
The Australian dollar received a fresh boost from the Reserve Bank of Australia's latest policy stance. While the RBA has acknowledged that inflation has undershot some earlier expectations and unemployment has been higher than forecast, policymakers have not completely removed the possibility of another rate increase.
Markets continue to price meaningful odds of another hike later in the cycle. That keeps Australian yields relatively attractive and provides a fundamental reason for investors to maintain exposure to the Aussie.
Energy prices are adding another layer of support. The latest geopolitical tensions in the Gulf have pushed crude prices sharply higher, and Australia benefits from being a major commodity exporter. Higher energy prices can improve Australia's terms of trade, creating a positive shock for the Australian dollar.
Europe faces the opposite dynamic. Higher energy costs can weigh on European consumers and businesses because the region is heavily dependent on imported energy. That divergence makes the current environment particularly favorable for AUD against the euro.
The European Central Bank's comparatively cautious policy outlook also reduces the euro's yield advantage. With the RBA retaining a tightening bias while the euro area faces weaker growth risks, the fundamental balance currently favors further downside in EUR/AUD.
The biggest risk to the bearish view would be a sudden deterioration in global risk sentiment or a sharp decline in commodity prices.
EUR/AUD Technical Analysis

EUR/AUD is currently sitting directly above 1.6340 support, making this the most important level for the immediate trend.
A daily close below 1.6340 would strengthen the bearish structure and could expose the July low around 1.6260. If that support also fails, the next major downside target would be around 1.6130, an area that has previously attracted buyers.
On the upside, the first resistance is around 1.6400–1.6420. Reclaiming this zone would reduce the immediate bearish pressure and could push the pair toward 1.6500.
The technical picture therefore remains bearish while EUR/AUD stays below 1.6400. The combination of a hawkish RBA, stronger energy prices and weak price structure gives sellers the advantage.
For now, 1.6340 is the decisive line in the sand. A confirmed breakdown would create a fresh downside signal, while a recovery above 1.6400 would suggest that sellers are losing momentum.
