Alphabet (GOOGL) is trading at $351.99 on Tuesday, up about 1.5%, climbing into the most important print of the week: Q2 earnings after Wednesday's close (July 22). It is the first of the megacaps to report this quarter, which makes it the market's opening statement on whether the AI trade still deserves the benefit of the doubt.
Why it matters
Because Alphabet reports first, its reaction sets the tone for the entire Magnificent-Seven complex. The consensus wants EPS of $2.89 on $116.84 billion in revenue — double-digit growth on both lines. The bull case is that Search and YouTube ad demand held up and that Google Cloud keeps converting its backlog at north of 20% (KeyBanc just lifted its target to $445 with an Overweight rating; the Street average sits near $433). The bear case is the roughly $190 billion AI-infrastructure bill and what it does to margins and free cash flow. With the CNN Fear & Greed index at 37.6 (fearful) and chips only just steadying after last week's rout, the tape is nervous walking in — a clean beat could re-arm the whole group, a capex scare could do the opposite.
Technical analysis
GOOGL sits roughly 14% below its 52-week high of $408.61, having climbed all year off the $187 low. Into the print, $350 is the round-number pivot; Tuesday's $359.68 day high is first resistance, and a post-earnings daily close above $360 opens the path back toward the $408 record. On the downside, $340 — the Street's lowest target and prior support — is the line bulls must hold; lose it and $330, then the $320 gap, come into play. Earnings gaps are binary events, so this is a level map for the reaction, not a prediction of it.
BeCoin's forecast read
The model treats the pre-earnings drift as noise and the report as the event: its weekly path skews constructive while price holds above $340, and a confirmed close above $360 post-report flips the month view toward the $408 high. A capex-driven gap below $340 shifts the distribution toward $330–$320. On the year horizon it stays positive on the Search-plus-Cloud growth engine as long as $340 survives. In plain terms, the model respects the uptrend but wants the market's verdict before adding — $360 to confirm strength, $340 to stay in.
